Power Development

Stock  Stock:  STOCK CYLINDER - STOCK EXHAUST - STOCK CARB

Want more power from your 250 Trailblazer? This engine has great potential and a long history. The 250 engine was the first Polaris product and it's mainstay in the early years. As the demand for more power became more pressing, Polaris came out with hotter versions of this engine. This effort peaked in the late 80's when the Cyclone model arrived with a 38mm carb, a much modified cylinder porting and a higher revving pipe. This model pumped out over 30 HP but was only around for a few years as a stop gap until Polaris introduced the larger liquid cooled 350 two stroke motor, which then evolved into the 400 engine.

Stage 1  Stage 1:  STOCK CYLINDER - STOCK CARB - TORQUER PIPE

With the larger liquid cooled engines now taking care of the top of the line, Polaris has detuned the 250 down to it's present stage. Today the 250 cylinders have much smaller ports and a 30mm carburator combined with a low revving pipe. The output of todays 250 Trailblazer is 22 HP at 5250 RPM, a very conservative figure compared to the earlier Cyclone models which pulled over 30 HP. No need to worry about today's feeble output, we can restore your power with a number of kits. The quickest way to more power is our pipes. The torquer pipe mounts directly to the stock header pipe and provides 27 HP (a 5 HP gain at 6000 RPM), while matching the bottom end torque of the stock exhaust system. The torque pipe is ideal as an all around play pipe because of it's wide power band.

Stage 2  Stage 2:  STOCK CARB - TORQUER PIPE - PORTED CYLINDER

Matching the torquer pipe with cylinder porting opens up the power band and gives you access to power only available on the earlier Cyclone models. With a torquer pipe, cylinder porting and head machining you are now looking at a healthy 32 HP at 6750 RPM, and that is still with the stock 30mm carb.

Stage 3  Stage 3:  STOCK CARB - PORTED CYLINDER - TOP END PIPE

Our new top end pipe will also work with the stock cylinder, producing 30 HP at 6700 RPM, but with a small loss of bottom end torque. The top end pipe is designed for ultimate power with a ported cylinder. This combination delivers 35 HP at 7250 RPM and that is with a 30 mm roundslide carb.

Stage 4  Stage 4:  PORTED CYLINDER - TOP END PIPE - 38 TMX FLATSLIDE CARB

Combine the ported cylinder with the top end pipe (see above) plus a 38 mm flatslide carb and you are looking at 38 HP at 7250 RPM.

With this kind of output in a light Trailblazer chassis, you should be able to play with stock 400 and 500 Scramblers. Clutch kits are available for all the stages, to make sure the clutch matches the output and new RPM level. For maximum clutch performance, there is nothing that matches our friction-free roller action kits in acceleration, downshift and increased belt life.
